Aimon Merner is sent to Starfall Manor by the High Council in Portcallan. He's only meant to be checking the accounts, but finds himself embroiled in far more than he ever expected or wanted.

Marran Delver, Governor of North Eastern District is also travelling to the Manor, but his reasons are a mystery to everyone but himself.

And at Starfall, Leaira Modelen, the Manor's librarian, can't understand why Governor Delver behaves as if he knows her, or what this sequence of events is going to lead to for all of them...
